Qldcruising.net September Newsletter

To view pictures, please open the full article if you are viewing from the Queensland Cruising homepage

Welcome back to Queensland Cruising for another monthly dose of events, conversations, pictures and car culture. If you haven't seen one of these before, then you probably joined after the 1st of August. So in saying that, welcome to all of the new members over the month of August. It's brilliant to see so many new people getting welcomed into our group by our long time members and to see them getting more and more involved as the weeks progress.

August has been another fantastic month for our group, despite numerous engine mishaps (mostly mine), and we have some great news to share with everyone. As you may or may not know, a number of Queensland Cruising members participated in this years Jamboree (J20). We had a great level of success, and some excellent feedback from numerous people who approached our display. It was nice to attend a car show where 98% of people were being positive about other peoples cars. There were very few people who had nothing good to say... It was a refreshing change!

We Won!

At Jamboree, to our complete surprise, as a group we took home the 2010 Jamboree Top Club trophy. It was both a shock and an honor to collect the trophy on behalf of Queensland Cruising at the main stage. Winning this trophy was a great achievement and a massive group effort. Jules also took home the "Top Vinyl" trophy on both Saturday & Sunday - What a fantastic effort!

Here is a list of the people who helped us win this award:

88bin (Bindi)
Famous (Glen)
sssPulsarSr20freek (Dougie)
sammyg313 (Sam)
Hooble (Trevor)
TIM800 (Tim)
benking (Ben)
Julez (Julia)
Adzy (Adam)
Kane (Dave) - even though he was at another stand :P
Povpak (Mark) - not with the Commodore but was there for moral support
Scotty (Scott) - not with his pimpreza but was there for moral support
Addy (Adriana) Again, there for moral support

Anyone who I have not put on the list - my apologies! Great effort guys!

Car of the Month

Each month we feature a car in the monthly newsletter. This month, it's been voted that my car (OWH47) is to be featured. Now it'd be a bit naff of me to write up my car so we tasked Beebs to do it. Thanks Beebs for both the submission and also the write up.

This month I have, bestowed upon me, the great honour of doing the write up for this truely legendary machine. It's hard to know where to start, knowing the history of the car and its owner. So I think i'll go from the top...
From it's humble beginnings as a daily run around, this little N15 Nissan Pulsar has had a great life, with equally as great owner. Little did we know that only a few years down the track, it would become a through and through street warrior with presence that can be likened to the all mighty GTR...
With our fearless leader at its helm, great things were expected of this car, and true to his words, we wouldn't be dissapointed.
Inititially the little Pulsar was being shoved around by the grunty little 1.6L that it came graced with from factory. With the added lung capacity of some after market extractors, an exhaust and some intake mods, the mighty GA16 managed to pump out a beefy 67.5 fwkw's.

Image

Now whilst it wasn't going to be breaking dyno's anytime soon, the handling department was taken care of. With Strut Braces and Swaybars fitted through out the car, plus the low slung and stiff KYB shocks and King springs, the Pulsar became a true drivers car. With decent power and go kart handling, all that needed to be addressed now were the aesthetics.

Luckily for Ben, the car was already graced with a decent factory exterior which was accentuated with some rare, imported factory items. To complete the look, 17 inch race rims were fitted all round and the car was hooked up with a killer stereo install.
It had the looks, it had the go and the finesse of a supercar.

However one day, the pulsar took a turn for the worse...
After torential rain, the car managed to suck water up into the engine and completey destroy it.
It was a painfully slow couple of months after the incident that a new heart was found and installed. And knowing Ben, everyone knew something was on the cards :ninja: .

Image

With a Nissan SR20DET motor now pumping away, the humble little Pulsar was gone, replaced by its evil twin brother. After a few dramas...quite a few drama's infact :P the Pulsar now breathes forced air through a GT28 turbo and a set of N/A SR20DE cams. A 2.5" exhaust expells the nasties, while boost and temp gauges keep an eye on all of the important bits.
To bring this pavement pounder to a halt, a set of SSS brakes and larger rotors and pads were fitted up while a Nissan SSS front bumper was added to keep with the sporty, factory look all aided by a flat black, front mounted intercooler.
Ben's N15 Nissan Pulsar IS the whole package.
The age of the OWH47 Pulsar is upon us, and I for one, can't wait to see what happens in the next chapter of its life.
-Ellis

Photocomp

Unfortunately we had no submissions for the photocomp this month. I'll start a thread instead of doing it via PM - it might work a little better... Look out for this in next months letter!

It's with great pleasure that I can officially announce that Autobarn Macgregor has come on board as a sponsor of Queensland Cruising. We've been offered a 10% discount for all members of our group on all products except for sale or already marked down items.

This means that you have access to discounted:

You will need one of our newly released "Queensland Cruising Member Cards". On this card our sponsors will be listed. This will need to be presented at the point of purchase in order to attain your discount.

Qldcruising.net July 2010 Newsletter

Hi All,

Welcome back to another month full of events and information with Queensland Cruising. If you joined after the 1st of June, you probably won't have seen one of these before. This is just a quick newsletter that we send out to all of our members to provide a snapshot of what's happening in the coming month. We type this up over a few days and make sure that we have the most content possible to keep you in the loop. I had meant to send this out last night but I ran out of time...

Car of the Month

This month's Car of the Month goes to Dutch's N16 Pulsar Turbo. Dutch has put a lot of work into this car over the last month repairing it and getting it back on the road. With plenty more planned over the coming months this car continues to be a source of inspiration for other N16 Pulsar owners. The QG18DE+T motor holds the current record for the most power pulled from one of these motors within Australia. Since the repairs, boost levels have been dropped significantly to give the engine a bit better fuel economy and life expectancy. Previously the motor recorded a whopping 237HP which is pretty outstanding for a 1.8 litre engine on basically stock internals.

Well done Dutch and please remember to send us a private message so we can send you your Meguiars Prize Pack!

Spotted Cards & Stickers

Spotted cards and stickers are ready to go right now. We have had great success from the spotted cards being left for nice cars that you've seen around in car parks and on the road. Stickers are also a great means of representing the group and bringing in new members. If you would like some spotted cards or some stickers then please send a PM to me or email team@qldcruising.net

Thank you all for your donations!

Thanks to everybody who has donated to the website in the past month. It has helped take the pressure off tremendously by helping pay for new stickers, domain name renewals and t-shirts/hoodies which are on their way. You have probably noticed there are members in a bolded blue colour. These are donating members. We are also implementing some special donating member only benefits and discount VIP cards for various stores.

This month we're running a promotion for the highest donating member. The person who donates the most to the community will win one of the Meguiars Gold Class car wash packs worth over $95 RRP (AUD). To donate please go to viewtopic.php?f=14&t=2387 and don't forget to include your username in the notes so we know who you are.

That just about sums it up for this month...

Thanks again and until next time...

Qldcruising.net June 2010 Newsletter

Hi All,

Thank you to everybody for the huge effort in building forum activity and getting this place moving. If you joined after the 1st of May, you probably won't have seen one of these before. This is just a quick newsletter that we send out to all of our members to provide a snapshot of what's happening in the coming month. We type this up over a few days and make sure that we have the most content possible to keep you in the loop.

Website Update:

It has been requested by many of our donating members to have their proper rank titles back as well as being listed as a donating member. Underneath your user Avatar, there is a line such as "Silver Member" etc etc etc - this is calculated by your post count. Previously these post count determined titles were not viewable if you were set as a donating member or a part of a special group. What we have done is allowed the forum to display both ranks. Unfortunately in the process of doing this, a few of the standard user Avatars went missing for donating members and will need to be re added to the forum.

Dyno Day Update!

The dyno day is nearly upon us. Currently we have 7 fully paid entrants and are awaiting another 16 payments to confirm your spot. If you want to reserve your spot, you have until the 10th of June to pay in full to either Beebs or via our online Credit Card/PayPal system. After the 10th of June it will be first paid first served. If you want to give me or Beebs the money in person then please send us a PM to arrange to do so.

The dyno day will be on Saturday 10th of July at Bob Romano Performance. For those who want to enter the Show n Shine it will be $2 to enter. This can be paid on the day to Beebs. There will be a full criteria on the day for the people that mark the cars.

Food: Sausage Sizzle and soft drinks on the day for GOLD COIN donations.
I also advise bringing food to munch on during the day but I believe that there are shops fairly close by.

There will be plenty of prize giveaways, photo's, videos and food going around so we look forward to seeing everybody there. Please let us know if you are coming, even if it's to enter the show and shine or just to spectate so that we can cater the required amount of food correctly.

Upcoming Events for June

Unfortunately a very small number of events have been posted up so far for this coming month. Please make sure you check the events sections to keep up to date as more events will be organised through the month: viewforum.php?f=44

MONTVILLE RUN - Saturday 27th June - viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2669

Car of the Month

This month we are featuring Kane's B16A CRX. Many of our long standing members would not even remember this car due to unfortunate set backs and Dave's undying need to go that one step further. Many would go so far as to say that this car is an urban legend amongst the Qldcruising Car Community.

After some seriously long nights (often including consumption of various alcohol in varying quantities), blooded hands, sweat and hopefully not too many tears, the "easy" mobile is just about ready to return to the scene refreshed and considerably faster than before.

Everybody is hanging out to see this car run at the dyno day - Hopefully it'll put down a nice number! Personally I'm hanging out to have the pleasure of being taken out for a bit of a drive in this beast.

Congratulations to Dave and his crew for a job well done.

COMPETITION: Guess the car drawing

Beebs has been announced as the winner or the Guess the car drawing competition. Thank you to all who entered and we look forward to giving away more free prize packs at the end of June!

Changes/What is happening/Categorized

So basically the following bits and pieces don't really fit into a category as such. These are just things that are going on that we thought you really aught to know about...

- Car of the Month

Car of the month will no longer be chosen by the team. Instead we'll be asking you to list a few cars you would like to see featured from the Members Rides section in the July newsletter. Please keep an eye out on the forum to get your say in the next featured car.

-Qldcruising Clothing

Branded clothing is now available for purchase. We need all orders in by the 15th of June to secure the required bulk discount to supply at the low price. T-Shirts are $18 and Hoodies are $39! Very well priced, very high quality and we're looking forward to seeing everyone wearing their hoodies and shirts on the Dyno Day. We have a limited stock of V-neck shirts for the same price which we will continue to do provided there is enough interest. These are ready to ship right now as they have already been done! Please go to viewtopic.php?f=21&t=2675 for details.

- Getting the forum moving

We know you're out there! Let yourself be heard and make some posts. We have so many people who browse the forums and read, which is fine, and we understand how daunting it can be introducing yourself to a group of new people. Please, feel free to say hello, come and get involved (we don't bite... usually), and start creating some topics. You are ALL extremely important to the continued growth of this website - we welcome your participation. ;)

Thanks again and until next time...
